Melbourne's favourite clubs host TEAMelbourne Mega Sports Clinic

Melbourne Storm development squad teach the kids rugby skills

TEAMelbourne hosted their fourth Mega Sports Clinic with their member clubs - Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Tigers, MELBOURNEfc and Melbourne Vixens - yesterday (Sunday 12th October) at Melbourne Park.

Over 500 children were part of the free event, where they had the opportunity to try rugby, football, netball and basketball, and meet their sporting heroes in a safe and fun environment.

The entire Melbourne Tigers team including Chris Anstey and Sam Mackinnon, were on hand for a basketball clinic station focusing on ball handling skills, shooting and passing; and players from the Melbourne Vixens including Julie Prendergast and Renae Hallinan hosted a netball clinic station with shooting, passing and game situation skills.

The football codes were represented by MELBOURNEfc players including Brad Miller and Jared Rivers for an AFL clinic station with handballing and kicking skills; and the Melbourne Storm’s under 20’s team hosted a rugby league clinic station will agility and ball handling skills.

Proudly supported by Coles, the clinic promotes the many benefits of participating in sport and enjoying a healthy and active lifestyle.

On the day, Coles had fresh fruit and healthy snacks available for the children and their parents, to further promote healthy eating.

All of the children received TEAMelbourne t-shirts to wear on the day along with a showbag filled with great healthy goodies.

Ten special kids from TEAMelbourne’s charity partner HeartKids also attended with their families. HeartKids offer support, encouragement and hope to families of children with heart disease, while raising awareness and vital funding into the causes of this chronic disease.

The Mega Clinics form part of TEAMelbourne’s community program which is supported by the Victorian Government.

Hosted twice a year, the free clinic has been an important part of the development of TEAMelbourne and the community opportunities created for its member clubs.

The next clinic will be held in early 2009, with registration available online and through all Coles supermarkets.
