TEAMelbourne is proud to support the State Library of Victoria’s Sport and War exhibition, celebrating the relationship between our sporting history and wartime experiences.

TEAMelbourne is a world first alliance of Melbourne’s premier sporting clubs (Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne Racing Club, Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club, Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club and Melbourne Vixens Netball Club) working together to strengthen business, memberships, partnerships and community relationships.

TEAMelbourne CEO Daniel Lynch said the Sport and War exhibition complements the TEAMelbourne vision, illustrating further how Melbourne is Australia’s sporting capital.

“Drawing on our broad history of sport and its connection with war, the exhibition is one that TEAMelbourne is thrilled to be part of,” he said.

“To have the opportunity to honour the people that shaped our history and allowed us to be in the exciting position we are in today is a privilege,”

“The similarities between sport and war with such things as leadership, team work and camaraderie are profound. This exhibition is an important educational opportunity,” he said.

Melbourne Tigers veteran player Stephen Hoare said the common bond between sport and war has played an immense part of Australia’s history.

“We are extremely lucky to be in a free society today, that allows us to play our chosen sport as a professional career,”

“It’s important for us to recognise and commemorate those who sacrificed at war, and what they achieved as a result, allowing us to enjoy the current climate of our sporting landscape today,”

“Sport is what brings our country together, which is evident in the Sport and War exhibition, inviting us to look back and reflect, to realise we are part of something bigger that simply playing a game,“ he said.
